What kind of procedures does Halo Day Hospital perform?
Halo is a dedicated day hospital. We support a range of same‑day procedures including minor general surgery, orthopaedics, ENT, ophthalmology and dental work, depending on the specialists practising at our facility. Your surgeon or doctor will confirm if your procedure is suitable for day admission at Halo.
Do I need to fast before my procedure?
Your surgeon and anaesthetist will give you specific fasting instructions. In general, patients may not eat solid food for 6 hours before anaesthesia and can have clear fluids up to 2 hours prior, but this may differ depending on your procedure and health status. Always follow the instructions on your booking or preadmission form.
Will my medical aid cover my procedure at Halo?
Halo Day Hospital works with most major South African medical schemes. Cover depends on your specific plan, available benefits and authorisation. Our accounts team can help you with an estimate and pre‑authorisation, but the final funding decision rests with your medical aid.
How long will I stay at the hospital?
Because Halo is a day hospital, most patients are discharged on the same day once they are fully awake, comfortable and medically stable. The total time can range from a few hours to most of the day depending on the type of procedure. Your doctor and nursing team will update you and your family during your stay.
